Women of Pakistan
have sewn from generations in their homes to make a living
on their domestic sewing machines. These machines became their
creative tools to express themselves making decorative “Paayanchas”,
the quilted ends of the trousers (shalwars). From these paayanchas
evolved decorative seams on sleeves and the hemlines of kaftans,
slits and necklines.
In Saniya Khan Spring/Summer 2008 Collection, the work of
such crafts-women has been incorporated in the form of gorgeous
bands (pattis) and medallions for the international wearer,
an expression of thousand dreams and untold tales.
